How the Shamanic Massage Was Born
Jitka Mandalam, teacher of shamanism and tantra, author of the Shamanic Massage
Why should someone come for a shamanic massage in a tantric studio?
Shamanic massage offers a unique opportunity to begin perceiving not only the physical body but also the energetic one, which allows us to connect more deeply with our sexual energy and with ourselves. In this massage, the energy is cultivated in such a way that a person can fulfill their intention in alignment with their so-called sacred dream.
Is it unsuitable for some people?
Yes – it's not suitable for those who don't want to change anything in their lives, or for those who are currently not in a state to align with their intentions and would benefit more from classic relaxation and simply switching off.
What would you say to someone who recoils at the mention of "shaman" and "tantra"?
They're just words – and like all words, they can be interpreted and used in many different ways by different people.
How did this process involving the "elements" come about? How did you choose which aspects of shamanism could be integrated into a massage in a tantric studio?
The elements are part of us – they flow through us and influence us. They relate to both the physical and energetic body. When we understand their principles, we can use them in alignment with our intentions – including in tantric and shamanic massage. I chose the elements based on their effects, with the aim of making the massage as effective as possible within a relatively short time, and to support the intention with which the client comes.
What experience do you have in this field?
For the past six years, I've been guiding tantric and shamanic trainings in John Hawken's Paths of Transformation school, where bodywork and conscious touch are fundamental tools for deepening self-awareness, transforming into personal freedom and strength, and following one's intention in alignment with the sacred dream.
When did this topic begin to attract you?
I studied experiential pedagogy at Palacký University. I later specialized in shamanism with a focus on bodywork and touch. I also earned a massage certificate and further developed my skills through reflexology, studies of Chinese medicine, and the Chinese therapeutic massage tuina. After that, I explored Taoist, yogic, Hindu, and Buddhist traditions, which eventually led me to tantra and shamanism. I now cultivate this path through a synthesis of these traditions, which I call Fiery Medicine – the path of beauty.
How does this lifestyle influence your personal life?
It makes it wonderfully adventurous and rich. What I value the most are the deep and beautiful relationships in my life – especially with my children and family. I can say that thanks to tantra and shamanism, I now have a much clearer understanding of what's happening inside me, and that makes it easier to navigate life's apparent difficulties. More and more, it's a path of beauty.
